DAILY LIFE IN TERRASSA
Located just a short train ride away from the cosmopolitan hub of Barcelona, Terrassa offers a unique blend of suburban tranquility and vibrant cultural life.
Cultural Integration and Safety in Terrassa:
- Cultural Integration: As a suburb of Barcelona, Terrassa provides a quieter environment for focused study while still offering rich cultural experiences. Trainees can explore local traditions, learn the Catalan language, and enjoy the close-knit community's support.
- Safety and Accommodation: Safe, secure, and a mere 10-minute walk from the studios, the accommodations ensure trainees can safely navigate between home and their rigorous training schedule. The safety of Terrassa and its proximity to Barcelona make it an ideal location.
The daily life of a Ballet de Catalunya trainee is a harmonious blend of intense training and cultural immersion, set against the backdrop of one of Spain's most historically rich and safe suburbs, offering a peaceful respite from the bustle of Barcelona.
- EXAMINATIONS
For equal opportunities within Ballet de Catalunya, the trainees will have a midterm examination that will allow them an objective evaluation about their progress. The evaluation also entitles trainees the opportunity to be promoted in rank to a higher position in the company with the unique goal to be offered a contract by part of the artistic team. The examination will also give a good opportunity for the trainee to be chosen for a scholarship in order to encourage them to improve in their formation. The examination allows the artistic team to see the strong and weak points of each trainee and to adapt their program to achieve best results for the future careers of the trainees.
What the examinations and assessment days consist of:
The exam consists of a ballet class followed by the presentation of one classical variation and one contemporary solo (the contemporary solo cannot be longer than 3 minutes).
All the required information will be delivered to the trainees prior to the examination.
- HEALTH INSURANCE
All trainees are to be insured under a policy of health insurance decided by the company. The company chosen to insure the trainees of Ballet de Catalunya is Seguro Adeslas which is recognized as the top health insurance company in Spain. The policy chosen is a full health insurance, without copayments (copayments meaning any extra payments for medical visits or exams). The price of this insurance is 750,00 euro per academic year. The price may vary and is to be confirmed at the beginning of the contract start date. This health insurance is also necessary for obtaining a Visa. Proof of health insurance will be provided with the acceptance letter for use in the visa application. The acceptance letter will stipulate that the trainee is fully covered by this health insurance.
The health insurance covers 100% of medical visits and outpatient costs. Medicines are not included. Within the first six months, limitations may be applied by Adeslas on some exams ie. PET scan and similar processes. The health insurance validity begins one month prior to the arrival of the trainee and can be paid before or upon arrival.
All Trainees must be covered by Ballet de Catalunya's health insurance policy. No Trainee may commence their training at Ballet de Catalunya without having been enrolled in the company's health insurance policy. Even if a Trainee already possesses alternative health insurance, they will still be required to maintain and pay for Ballet de Catalunya's health insurance.
The company does not provide pointe shoes or ballet slippers for trainee members. Pointe shoes and ballet slippers are the responsibility of each trainee.
If Ballet de Catalunya chooses a specific brand and type of pointe shoes or ballet slippers, all Trainees will be required to use that particular brand and style for their footwear.
